David (Woody) Woodland is our 2019 Volunteer of the Year. Woody has volunteered with Timberline Adult Day Program for the past two years and has become an integral part of our volunteer team. He is a reading buddy, a mentor to our participants, and enjoys assisting our staff on community outings. As of January 2020, we welcomed Woody as a member of the Timberline Board of Directors, as well.

The Importance of Volunteers

Volunteers are a vital part of achieving our goals of making the Timberline Adult Day Program an inclusive, enriching program to attend. Our volunteers play a key role in helping in a number of activities such as daily walks, library, and animal shelter visits and many community outings, as well as indoor activities such as art and music programs. This year, we are looking to increase our volunteer base by 20% in order to broaden our reach in Summit County and expand our community outings program.

The Benefits of Volunteering

Did you know that volunteering combats depression, and helps counteract the effects of stress and anxiety? According to HelpGuide.org, there are many benefits to volunteering. The four main benefits are:

  1. Volunteering connects you to others
  2. Volunteering is good for your mind and body
  3. Volunteering can advance your career
  4. Volunteering brings fun and fulfillment to your life

In our busy, resort community, it can be challenging to make lasting personal connections. Volunteering is one way to become exposed to new groups of people and allows for the expansion of our social circles. It’s an extremely important component of a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Volunteer with Timberline

Let us help you while you help us! By volunteering for Timberline Adult Day Program, you’ll connect with members of this great community, share your gifts and talents with our participants, and have a fulfilling and rewarding experience. Woody shared his experience in this testimonial:

"It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as a volunteer at Timberline Adult Day Program.  Providing care and friendship for adults with dementia and disabilities has been a very fulfilling and impactful experience which has enabled me to see the world in a different light.  Importantly, all of the Timberline staff are exceptional, dedicated professionals who seamlessly integrate volunteers into the program and make them feel very welcome.  Timberline Adult Day Program is an essential program in Summit County."
